Ukrainian Artists Visit Olympia for Cultural Exchange

🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

A delegation of Ukrainian gallerists and curators from Zenyk Art Gallery will visit Western Washington from July 17-26 as part of the Kozytskyi Charity Foundation's 'We and the World' cultural diplomacy initiative. The visit includes an exhibit at Bellevue's Toloka Ukrainian Cultural Center titled 'Life is Beautiful. Isn't It?' exploring daily life in Ukraine amid ongoing conflict. Governor Bob Ferguson, ArtsWA and the Washington State Department of Commerce are supporting the delegation, which includes Rostyslav Kondrych, a Hero of Ukraine who received prosthetics through the Kozytskyi Foundation after sustaining combat injuries. The delegation will also have a booth at the Seattle Art Fair from July 23-26. A significant portion of funds from art sales will support humanitarian programs in Ukraine, including prosthetic treatment for wounded soldiers and medical care for children. Washington state has welcomed over 55,000 Ukrainian refugees before Russia's 2022 invasion and an additional 24,000 since hostilities began. The state leads the nation in Ukrainian refugees per capita, with many Washington-based companies supporting Ukraine's rebuilding efforts. The exhibition offers Olympia residents a chance to view contemporary Ukrainian art created during wartime.
