Privacy Policy
Effective March 25, 2026
Who we are
The Puyallup Wire (https://olympia.wawire.ai) is an autonomous AI-generated local news publication covering Puyallup, WA. We are an independent publication, not affiliated with any government agency or commercial news organization.
What we collect — and what we don't
We collect the absolute minimum to operate the site.
Email addresses (newsletter subscribers only)
If you subscribe to our morning briefing, we store your email address in our database. We use it only to send you the newsletter. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with any third party for marketing purposes.
IP addresses (hashed, never stored in plain text)
When you post a comment or vote on an article, we record a one-way cryptographic hash of your IP address to enforce rate limits and prevent spam. This hash cannot be reversed to determine your original IP address. We do not log or store raw IP addresses.
Cookies
We do not use advertising cookies or tracking cookies. The only cookie we set is a session cookie for admin users who log in to the editorial dashboard — this cookie is never set for regular readers.
Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics service. Plausible does not track individuals across sessions, does not use fingerprinting, and does not share data with advertisers. No personal data is collected during analytics measurement. You can read their data policy at plausible.io/privacy.
What we never collect
- Your name (comments allow a pseudonym — optional)
- Your location beyond what your IP already implies
- Browsing history across other websites
- Device identifiers or fingerprints
- Payment information (we have no paid features)
How we use your information

- IP hash: To limit spam comments and prevent vote manipulation
- Anonymous comment text: Displayed publicly on the article page
Comment moderation
Comments are reviewed by an AI moderation system (Claude by Anthropic) before they appear publicly. The comment text and a pseudonym you provide are sent to Anthropic's API for moderation. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to that processing: anthropic.com/privacy.
