Thurston County Emergency Management updated its alert system on July 27, 2026. The system now includes options for residents to sign up for river flood notifications.
The county uses three types of alerts: Emergency Notification Public Alerts for targeted geographic areas, Emergency Alert System (EAS) for county-wide emergencies, and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) for mobile devices. WEA alerts are short messages about extreme weather, AMBER Alerts, or national emergencies. Residents can opt out of most WEA alerts except presidential alerts.
To sign up for river flood notifications, residents can register online or call (360) 867-2800. The county emphasizes these alerts help keep citizens informed about hazardous conditions in Thurston County.
