🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

Thurston County released its 2026 Journey to Health Equity: Health Disparities within Thurston County report on July 9, 2026. The report examines health disparities across the county and aims to guide future efforts to improve health outcomes for all residents.

The county also announced a public hearing on August 5, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. at the County's Atrium building, or online, to gather community input on a temporary pause in permitting new detention facilities. This decision follows a countywide review of detention facility impacts.

Additionally, the county won 30 national awards for innovation and efficiency, including 10 for its Public Health and Social Services Department and five for the County Auditor’s Office. The awards highlight the department's work despite budget constraints. Thurston County officials also approved a temporary burn ban on yard waste and land clearing in unincorporated areas starting July 8, 2026, to address fire risks during dry weather.
