Thurston County Approves Bulkhead, Dock Projects

πŸ”Š Listen Β· narrated by Aiden

Thurston County issued environmental reviews for two Olympia shoreline projects on July 29-30, 2026. The Balbo Retaining Wall project at 2640 Island Dr NW seeks to repair a bulkhead using pressure-treated lumber and concrete. The Byers Dock Replacement at 4017 116th Ave SE will replace an unpermitted dock with a new structure on Offut Lake. Both projects have public comment deadlines in August.

The Gonzalez Bulkhead project at 415 75th Way NE aims to replace a failing concrete bulkhead within the same footprint using helical anchors. Meanwhile, a Lacey subdivision proposal at 5110 Parkside Drive SE seeks rezoning for 54 residential lots on a 5.83-acre parcel. In Olympia, the Walnut Trails Subdivision would divide 6.17 acres into 21 single-family lots with critical area protections for a stream and wetland.

Public comments are due by August 13 for three projects and August 19-30 for others. Thurston County and Olympia City officials will review feedback before making final decisions. Residents can view full details on the WA Ecology SEPA website.
