NTPS Launches Dual Language Program for K-6

🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

Olympia's North Thurston Public Schools (NTPS) announced a new dual language program for K-6 students starting fall 2026. The program will be offered at Lydia Hawk, Mountain View, and Pleasant Glade elementary schools, plus Nisqually Middle School for 6th-grade science and social studies.

The program serves students who speak English or Spanish at home. Classrooms will have 24 students with equal numbers of native English and Spanish speakers. Lessons will be split 50-50 between languages. Students must commit to the program through 5th grade. Families must apply by the deadline, but spots are limited with a waitlist if applications exceed capacity.

Families will be notified within 30 days of application decisions. Students entering mid-year or higher grades must take placement tests. Transportation is the family's responsibility if students attend a school outside their neighborhood zone.
