🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

Amy Buckler will join the Washington State Department of Commerce as Housing Division assistant director effective Aug. 3, the agency announced. Buckler previously served 16 years at the City of Olympia and most recently as assistant city manager in Centralia.

Commerce Interim Director Sarah Clifthorne praised Buckler for her experience tackling housing challenges. Buckler will lead the Housing Division, which oversees 60 programs and more than 200 employees across eight units. The division supports local governments and nonprofits on homelessness services and first-time homebuyers.

Buckler replaces interim co-assistant directors Tedd Kelleher and Kennly Asato. Kelleher retires after 32 years of state service. Asato will remain interim until Buckler starts, then return as deputy assistant director. Buckler will join Governor Ferguson’s Housing Task Force.
