Olympia Property Owner Seeks Timber Clearing for New Home

A Thurston County environmental review is underway for a proposed forest land conversion on Sunset Beach Drive NW in Olympia. Applicant Jay Kobza is seeking a Class IV Forest Land Conversion permit to clear roughly half an acre of timber to make way for a future single-family home.

The project, filed under SEPA #202601621, would involve harvesting approximately 15,000 board feet of timber from the 2. 09-acre parcel at 4810 Sunset Beach Dr NW. The property is zoned Rural Residential Resource, allowing one dwelling unit per five acres.

Thurston County issued a Determination of Non-Significance (DNS) on April 17, 2026, indicating county reviewers did not identify significant environmental impacts at this stage. The public comment period closes April 30, 2026.
